EH Smith’s Milena Deck Grey features on Garden Rescue

May 12, 2019

On 10th May 2019, BBC programme Garden Rescue featured EH Smith’s Milena Porcelain Paving, exclusively supplied through Global Stone. Arit Anderson, along with brothers David and Harry Rich designed and built a garden for Richard and Darren from Solihull.

Their love for prosecco and the New York High Line inspired the garden’s design. Richard and Darren visited the High Line on honeymoon after they married in New York.

The New York High Line

The New York High Line is a public park built on a historic freight train line above the streets of Manhattan’s West Side.

Built in the mid 1800’s, the first freight train to travel the 1.48 mile line made its first departure in 1933. However, due to the rise in truck usage, by the 1980’s, the freight trains stopped altogether.

It is now a hybrid public space where visitors experience nature, art and design, consisting of plants and trees. In addition, the floor of the High Line consists of grey concrete, flowing throughout the length of the space.

Low Maintenance Porcelain Paving

Richard and Darren requested that their landscape would be low maintenance, as they are not keen gardeners. Therefore, for this Solihull garden, Arit used porcelain paving. Although the High Line is paved with concrete, the paving of choice was EH Smith’s Milena Range in Deck Grey, which is a wood effect porcelain.

Arit specifically wanted to use porcelain paving as it is hard wearing. Read about how porcelain paving is created here.  In addition, porcelain is also simple to maintain, cleaned by hosing down the paving, brushing away debris with a rubber brush.

Continuing the low maintenance theme, the rest of the garden consists of gravelled areas, grasses and trees. Real train tracks and sleepers complete the garden’s inspiration from the High Line.

Using EH Smith’s Milena porcelain paving as a worktop, the garden’s central entertain section was complete; a prosecco bar! Perfect for clearing up any spills of bubbly.

Cin Cin, or should we say – choo choo!
